About Kirby Civic Auditorium
The date was Monday, August 1, 1949. When the brand new 1028-seat Kirby Theater opened its doors for the first time. “Stratton Story”, featuring James Stewart and June Allyson, was the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture selected for the grand opening. Roxboro and Person County both fell in love with their new theater after that wonderful movie.
The admission sign at the box office window read- Matinee - 15 cents for children - 36 cents for adults. Evenings - 15 cents for children and 42 cents for adults. Popcorn was 15 cents per box.. |
