This is a photo of the art nouveau style murals that flanked either side of the Kirby stage in 1949. They were painted by an Italian artist named Nat Natiloni who also acted as interior designer of the original theater. The Murals were removed in a 1976 renovation.
We are proud to inform viewers that the beautiful murals have been reinstalled. The work was completed July 24, 2005 by artist Michael Brown of Carrboro, NC. The murals are installed on canvas on either side of the stage opening as they were in 1949.
